This activity was basically filling each of the alphabet letters with things that are based on Auckland. For example the letter R could be the Rugby because it is the New Zealand Sport, NZ or F can be Farming since we have a lot of farming industry. It was pretty hard because it was hard to find a topic based on Auckland that started with the letter x, y, and z, but then I figured out X Mas, Yellow eyed penguin and the Z Gas Station was one.

I decided to choose Queens town, since I've been there multiple times. I would want to go to Queens town because of the large variety of activities there are especially the Skyline and Luge which is where I've been in the previous holidays. Not only that, but the Lake Wakatipu is really amazing because of its crystal clear water.

This week for inquiry, LS2 have been learning about the Victorian Era. The Victorian era was based on Queen Victoria's time. Our first activity was to choose one of the task from Victorian time and Junior, Mataio and I decided to choose to research about the Children working in factories. We researched about this because we wanted learn how life was hard for children back in the Victorian times. I found out that kids who are age 5 to 6 and are skinny would have to climb to the chimney and clean all the yuck chemicals. In my perspectives we are lucky because back in the Victorian time if the kids spoke to each other they were smacked, but in nowadays we don't get smack for doing bad things in schools. Some of the kids doing the chimney sweep had rotten teeth because of the chemicals. After this activity we were to draw a steampunk which was based on the Victorian era. A steampunk is when modern technology is mixed with technology back in the Victorian times. I have drew a heart. Our last task was to make a DLO based on what steampunk art is and facts about it as well. I really enjoyed all activity especially drawing the steampunk. Fraidoonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11377961355458512061noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4328275682704894965.post-73750376850545639172018-11-23T14:50:00.001+13:002018-11-23T14:50:21.356+13:00Athletics Day

Today was Panmure Bridge School had their annual athletics day. Everyone was split into four different teams: Yellow, Green, Red and Blue. I was in the yellow team and my teammates were Kanye, Ofa, Julian and Sky. Each team was rotating around each activity. There were 9 field events. They were rob the nest, hurdle, sponge relay, shot pot, discus, lifesaver, egg and spoon race, rest/dance station, long jump, and the Frisbee race. We all enjoyed the activities that we participated in. We had students from Tamaki College to help us with the activities. My favorite activity was the hurdle and sponge relay, because I liked how I got wet. The last field event that we did was sprints. Each year group had a different meter mark to run from. Fraidoonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11377961355458512061noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4328275682704894965.post-57189545352925018802018-11-21T12:19:00.003+13:002018-11-21T12:19:59.718+13:00Harry Potter Book Series

Some of us did a bar graph which had our 2017 & 2018 progression and others had just our 2018 progress. In my opinion Read theory is a really helpful site to learn new words and to help comprehend questions. On my bar graph it shows my progression in February, July, and November in 2018. As you can see my bar graph looks like stairs, which shows how I have highly improved in 2018. When I first started in 2018 I was on grade 5 and now I am on grade 10.

We have had quite a few challenges based on the stories we read as young children. Our teacher Mrs Anderson has also set us a few challenges based on a few books that she read as a child. This one being Wolves. It is written by Emily Gravett, and illustrated by her too. This book explains and gives a few facts about wolves, and includes lovely images to paint a picture into your head. Our challenge, was to come up with around 5 myths about wolves, and then research them and see if they are true or false. This task could be done alone, or with a partner, so I chose to work with Alex.

To achieve a badge we must complete five tasks. In this task I needed to make dinner for my family. I am doing this challenge for my gold respect badge. I found this task quite difficult because I did not know what to cook. But, with the help of my mum I was able to make naan bread. My mum would tell me the instructions then I would follow them. While I was making my naan bread, my mum made some delicious rice and chicken to go with it. Down below is the instructions that I followed to make my naan bread.
Some people found doing the orientation confusing but it all went to plan at the end. After we answered the questions Mrs Anderson asked us to create a statistical analysis on one of the questions. For this activity I have created both a pie graph and bar graph to expand the knowledge of my global audience by sharing with them do illustrations in a book are popular among LS2. To answer the question the majority of people said yes and this could be for many reasons including: people not pushing themselves, or students are easily hooked in by amazing artwork. Although, I have said that illustrations are not necessary they are still an amazing thing to add.

Stan Walker is a New Zealand singer who started his career by winning the Australian Idol. The song 'The Climb' is apart of of his 2009 album Introducing Stan Walker. In my personal opinion I think he sang this song because of cancer and his emotional problems that can only be expressed through a meaningful song. One interesting thing I found out about Stan Walker was that he has a tattoo on his neck that reads Ataahua.(Which means beautiful) I did this task for my gold respect badge.

Today for our Personal Research Challenge LS2 was given a task which was to create a question chart about World War 1. Ofa and I have questions such as: How long did soldiers train for?, what kind of food did they?, how many soldiers died from firing squads? etc. The question Ofa and I researched more about was: How were soldiers punished for not following their orders? We have learnt that if soldiers were drunk on post their punishment could be death but it can be tied to a rope for 2 hours. Did you know that soldiers were also sent to court and if they were found guilty for breaking one of the rules they were shot. Being killed and tied by rope wasn't the only punishment. Soldier were also put on cleaning duties meaning they were to clean the dishes and also the toilets which was worse than cleaning the dishes.

What we are doing for this week are a few challenges based on the books that we have read in our past, and about reading in general. For this challenge, we were to re-create the cover of a book that we read in our childhood. The book that I did was Noah Dreary, and I worked on this activity with Julian, and Jack. We had all read and loved this story, so it was an easy choice between which book we did this on. I had a lot of fun doing this activity, and I believe that Jack and Julian had just as much fun.

This week is book week for Panmure Bridge School. What we are doing for this week are a few challenges based on the books that we have read in our past. For this challenge we needed to do an alphabet key on book tittles/Authors. I did this task with the help of Jack and Julian. I found this task really easy and I will try to do harder challenges next time.
This week in Panmure Bridge School, it is book week. This is to celebrate reading. For this challenge we were to make a DLO that includes our favorite books when we were growing up. Currently I am Reading Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, by J.K Rowling. Their is also a movie to the book, but I think the book is a lot better because it gives more information. This activity was fairly easy, although it got hard from time to time to remember which books we read as a kid. In the end, it was fun to remember what we used to like as a kid, and comparing those stories to what we like now.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">This upcoming Sunday will mark 100 years since World War 1 came to an end and to commemorate this occasion at school we held a special memorial which Mr Johnston led. WW1 ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. We had the whole school attend, representatives from our Board of Trustees, and a representative from the New Zealand Defense force. To open the memorial, Ofa started said the prayer which was followed by He Honore. After that Tiava and Jeremiah recited the Ode of Remembrance both in English and Maori. This was very special as it was to remember the fallen soldiers. We then listened to the last post and lowered the flag. It was then raised again to the playing of Reveille. To remember this event poppies with the signature of the students were placed on the fence in our school. Next to the poppies olive plants to remember the past, present and future were also planted. At the end of commemoration the school recited the national anthem. "We Will Remember Them, We Will Remember Them, Lest We Forget".
This week, for reading Mrs Anderson's and Ms Kirkpatrick's reading groups were a collaborative dlo about the Battle Of The Somme. It was a war that started on the 1st of July 1916 and it ended on the 18th of November 1916. Since I am in Mrs Anderson's group I needed to choose a partner from Ms Kirkpatrick's reading group. My partner was Lyric. In the collaborative comprehension we needed to work together and answer the questions we were given about the text. I found this task interesting because I was able to learn about a war that I didn't even know about before. Throughout this task Lyric and I got stuck, but at the end we eventually got their.Fraidoonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11377961355458512061noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4328275682704894965.post-48472781796033461292018-10-30T13:39:00.000+13:002018-10-30T13:39:36.188+13:00The Highwayman Summary

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">This week we have been reading the poem called the Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. It was written in 1913 but is set a long time before. The Highwayman was a British outlaw who would steal gold from people who were in carriages. His lover Bess would later in the poem take her life to warn her loved one about the soldiers who camped in her bedroom. When he found out about Bess taking her life he charged towards her residence where he was shot by the King's soldiers. Legend has it that when the moon is a ghostly galleon upon the cloudy seas he rides towards Bess's residence (an old inn) where he talks to her while she plaits a love knot in her hair.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small; text-align: left;">Today for math we were learning about radius, diameter and circumference. It was quite easy to answer because I've already learn a bit about this activity. The radius is the half of the circle and diameter is the half of the circle x2. The circumference is the measurement of the whole circle. I really enjoyed the game we played based on Radius and Diameter. One of the questions were if the radius is 3 what is the diameter. The answer is obviously 6 because you double the radius to get the diameter.

We also played two games, for one of them we were split into two groups and then needed to have a debate.
