For one of the City of Sails Challenge I decided to do what place I would live in New Zealand and why I would live there. I decided to choose Queens town, since I've been there multiple times. I would want to go to Queens town because of the large variety of activities there are especially the Skyline and Luge which is where I've been in the previous holidays. Not only that, but the Lake Wakatipu is really amazing because of its crystal clear water.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Ms Kirkpatrick and Mrs Anderson.

Spaghetti Bridge Testing
For the past two weeks for inquiry we have been making bridges out of spaghetti. We only had limited amount of supplies. Towards finishing our bridges there was not that much rubber bands left, so we had to improvise and use strings. Once we were finished, it was time to test them. We attached as many bricks as possible until it broke. The span of our bridge was 26.5cm and it was able to hold five bricks. I think we could have made our bridge a bit wider. For this task I worked with Carl, Joseph and Alexander. At the end Jack and Sanujan's group did the best because their bridge was able to hold 6 bricks.

Lighthouse For Sale Poster
This past week, in LS2 we have been learning about lighthouses. Our task was to create a for sale poster for a lighthouse. The lighthouse I chose to do was The Tarabat Lighthouse in Scotland. This lighthouse is £330,000 and $572,000. In my poster I needed to make sure I chose the correct colors so it could stand out. I enjoyed this task because I was able to research different lighthouses.

Matariki
Today in LS2 we were working collaborating with LS1 to find out the importance of Matariki. In this collaborative task we used our smart searching skills to create a DLO and find information about Matariki. First we were to watch a video and get as much information as we could in three minutes. For this task I worked with Jeremiah, David and Vayan. The most interesting thing that I found out was that Waiti and Waita are twins.

We first had to experiment our reaction time using a ruler. test 1 was visual reaction, test 2 was aural reaction and test 3 was tactile reaction. After we did the tests, we needed to group up with another pair and find the averages for our results. Nyjah and I pared grouped up with Jeremiah and Magenta. Once we did that we had to graph it. At the end our group did best at test 3.

First Rugby Match In New Zealand
In Poetry this week we have been learning about a ballad poem and a pioneer named Charlotte Ann. After we were to create a Dlo about something special that happened in the 1870's. Ofa, Miki, Aung Naing and I chose to research about the first rugby match that was played in New Zealand. I learnt that back in 1870 they had 18 player on the field and now we only have 15 players. In our dlo we tried to make a GIF and it didn't turn out to be as good as we thought it would be, but at least we tried.
Ballad Poem
This week our class has been focusing on poetry. We were learning about a ballad poem called our heritage. Once we listened we used the six thinking hats to explore more about the poem. Ofa, Miki, Aung Naing and I worked really hard to make sure we wrote everything in our own words and made sure we answered the questions. I learnt what a ballad poem is. A ballad poem is a poem that tells a story. I found out that a bullocky is an animal driver.

Lung Capacity
To compare the ling capacity of students in LS2, we used one breath to blow up a balloon. Then we measured the circumference if the balloon in cm. After we could graph the results to compare them. Did you know that four people had the lung capacity of 50 cm? You can also see that Julian has the biggest and Avalon and the smallest lung capacity.

Hineahuone
For this term our inquiry topic is about the Human body. Our first task was to create a storyboard about the story of Hineahuone who was the first women and world created (based on the Maori Beliefs). I worked collaboratively with Ofa to create this and we did a amazing job together. Before creating anything we were to sketch note on paper. We did this by drawing symbols of what the story was talking about. For example if the story had the word jump in it we would probably draw a person jumping or a arrow going up. It was a bit challenging but we got the hang of it at the end. After sketch noting we were to read our symbols and try and read out the story. Finally we were to create a storyboard that about the story.

Agent Of Change
This week LS2 have been learning about an Agent Of Change. An agent of change is a person from inside or outside the community that helps. An agent of change also changes things that they think is wrong. They make history and do what is right. In our DLO we were setting learning goals for ourselves. To help us set goals, we looked at how we could be agents of change in our 2018 learning journey.

Whakatauki
Today for Inquiry we were coming up with a Whakatauki that the New Zealand Olympics team could use. My Whakatauki is Stand Tall, Stay United and Strive To Be The Best. Which is Te Atu, Kia Kotahi To Noho, Ngana Kia Pai Ake translated in Maori. I think it would be a great idea for the New Zealand Olympics team to have a Whakatauki because it can encourage them to never give up and try their best.

Fox Adaptations
Today for Inquiry LS2 were learning about animal adaptation. We had to choose an animal that starts with the first letter of our name. My name starts with a F, so I decided to research about Fox. We made DLO's of our animal and how it has adapted to living in its environment. In our DLO's we put information like their habitat (where they live), diet (what they eat) what they look like, etc. Did you that Foxes are similar to dogs. They are interesting animals and they can be found in area such as North America.
