Today for maths, we all learnt about how to solve exponent (Powers) problems. Our challenge for today was to solve 18 problems based on our topic of exponents. This task had its ups and downs, although we all managed to find the answers and solutions. Next came creating a DLO that showed how to solve three different problems of the 18. To create this DLO I worked with Jack, and we had a lot of fun working, and creating together. In the end, we chose to make our DLO out of these problems. 73 (7 to the power of 3), 142 (14 to the power of 2), and 83 (8 to the power of 3).
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Ms Kirkpatrick and Mrs Anderson.

Maths Rich Task - Jola's Birthday Party
This week for maths Ms Kirkpatrick has set us another Maths Rich Task. In my perspective I think this was the easiest problem I've ever solved. First we were to solve three problems based on a birthday party. The skill we used to solve this problem was our division and multiplication skills. After solving the three problems we then had to pick one of the problems to make a DLO on. Ofa and I have decided to choose the last problem which talks about how many eggs each person that attended Jola's birthday should get. Each box holds 6 eggs and we had to figure out if 50 eggs would be enough for 8 of the guest. Our answer and our working out is on the DLO.

M&M Research
This week for maths we have been researching about M&M's with Mr Johnston. In groups we were to create a presentation with facts and informative graphs about M&M's. I found this task really fun because we got to explore new things and get creative with our learning. Everyone worked collaboratively and did an even amount of work. Jack also did some great drawings that links to our information. After finishing our presentation we had to present it to the class. I think we did really well presenting, but next time some of us need to speak up. The most interesting thing I found out was that when M&M's were first made they didn't have an M on it.

Math man - Fractions
Today for maths we were to play a game on fractions. This game is like PACMAN but the maths version. I found this game awesome because it really helped me boost my strength on fractions.

Fraction Of An Amount
For maths today we solved fraction equations. First we solved the first three with our teacher (Ms Kirkpatrick) then we could choose if we would stay on the mat or go work by yourself. Mataio and I chose to stay on the mat because we still didn't quite get what we had to do. We did 5 more then we had to do the last 2 by ourselves. I think this task was bit hard at first but it got easy at the end.

How Often Do You Go To The Movies?
Today for maths, we were to start and complete two different tasks. The first task was about Cinema Attendance by age group. For this task we were to find a partner or work individually to solve a few questions. So I've decided to work with Alex. Before we could start reading the questions we were to have a look at the line graph that had the age group attendances. As far as I know there are about 8 question to be solved. Once we were done with answering these questions, we were asked to write at a paragraph arguing why younger people are visiting the cinema a lot more than the start of the cinema's times.

Fence Post: Problem
Today during maths we were to finish off tasks we did not finish either this week's tasks, or the previous weeks tasks. In this problem we needed to find out how many corner posts and regular posts would Savelina have to buy to enclose two adjacent paddocks. We found this task quite easy and hard at the same time because there were some bits that we struggled with, like writing a blurb in the DLO. Although in the end we solved it. We learnt a new word, adjacent. It means something or someone next to each other. For this activity, I worked with Jack, Sanujan, and Ofa.
Salary Problem
This week for maths we were finishing maths task that we didn't get to do before. In this task we were to solve a word problem that involves money. Mataio and I worked collaboratively to solve this. I found this task quite easy because it mostly involved addition. Maybe next time I could try and use my times tables to solve it.

Age Problem
This week for maths the task was to solve a problem about age and then create a dlo about how we worked it out. For this task i worked with Alex. There were some parts that got Alex and I confused because we thought that it was Peter who was 4 years younger than Jack but after a while of searching to find the fault and we finally finish the problem.

Finding The Missing Angles
Today for Maths we were learning to use the formula for finding the interior angles of a triangle. Firstly we got a worksheet with examples that we needed to solve. After that we chose a problem that we could make a dlo on. In the dlo we needed to clearly explain the process we used to solve the problem.

Rounding Decimals - Scooter Quest
Today for maths we played a game. In that game the objective was to round up decimal numbers and each answers we got right the we recived money for our character Jimmy. We needed to get enough money for Jimmy to buy a scooter. I enjoyed playing this game because it helped me improve on rounding decimals.

Building Blocks Problem
This week for maths our task was to use the formula for finding the volume of a regular shape. We had the choice of working with a partner or by ourselves and I chose to work with Jack. We needed to find out the dimensions of a cube, that holds 100 2cm blocks. Jack and I worked really well and was able to get our answer in the time given. I

Electives
As part of our math task we were solving out a math problem given by Miss Kirkpatrick. I was working collaboratively with Mikihiro and Ofa. For this problem we used our multiplication, division and subtraction skills and were lucky to get the right answers. At first we were struggling because we didn't understand it so we read it twice and wrote all the key points from the problem. After trying a few times we figured the answer out. Today I learnt how to use my times table facts to find a fraction of a set.

Marathon Problem
For Maths this week we have been learning to use place value to add and subtract decimal numbers. We had to pair up with someone to solve a problem that Ms Kirkpatrick set for us. Freeman and I work really hard and got the answers fast. I learnt how to use place value to add and subtract decimal numbers.

Mussel Harvesters
In maths we have been doing some maths problems. This week the problems we were solving involved using our times table and our division. I have worked with Oh Hsen to show our learning through a DLO (Digital Learning Object). We have included the backstory and the LI (learning Intention).

Galloping Greyhounds
Today for maths, we have been learning how to add fractions. To add fractions you always need the denominator to be the same. After solving our word problem Oh Hsen and I made this DLO showing one problem that we have solved. For this weeks maths session I learnt how to add fractions. The thing that was hard for me was finding the answers because they were not like fractions.

It Pays To Win
L.I - To use known and try new strategies to answer maths equations.
Today for maths Jeremiah and I have been working on a maths word problem. Jeremiah and I solved question one, two and three. Soon we had to make a DLO only on question three. Doing this maths problem we had to use our timetables knowledge and our addition and multiplication knowledge to solve the maths problem. It was a bit difficult to solve it out because we had to add and multiply big numbers. I had a very awesome time solving our this maths problem.

Ordering Fractions
Today for our maths warm up we did ordering fractions. There were three levels we could choose from, I chose hard because I think I am good at ordering fractions.

Term 2 Reflection
This term was amazing, I learnt so many new things. My favorite part of this term was TaeKwondo because it helped me learn how to defend myself and I got more fitter during those sessions. I knew it helped me because when I did the beep test I did really well, and before doing TaeKwondo my fitness wasn't that good. Equally I loved doing maths because some of the tasks put me to the test and made me work harder. By working harder I got better. Reading this term was also great because I pushed myself to do more reading at home and school. And by doing that I went four levels higher.
