Winter Learning Journey: Day 2 - Activity 2

Activity 2: As an island nation, New Zealand is completely surrounded by water. It is the perfect place for people who like to swim or to sail! While in Dargaville, recovering from your busy day of sightseeing, you notice a number sailboats going by. One of the boats is manned by a young German girl named Laura Dekker. At the age of fourteen she sailed around the world the entire world by herself. You can watch a short video clip about her adventures here: Laura Dekker sailing trip.

Let’s imagine that you had the chance to interview Laura while in Dargaville. On your blog post five questions that you would ask her.
1. What got you into sailing?
2. What will you do when you retire?
3. Do you ever feel home sick when your off at another country?
4. Have you had any serious injuries during your sailing career?
5. Is there anybody else apart from you who sails in your family?

  1. Hey Fraidoon
What a great list of questions that you wrote to ask Laura. Imagine if you were by your self for a long time - seeing nothing by endless amounts of water. I know I would be terrified to sail around the world. Keep up the great work.

  3. Hi Fraidoon. You have asked a bunch of interesting questions. It's amazing how a fourteen year old girl sailed the whole world by herself, don't you think? Keep up the great work.

  4. Hello Fraidoon!

These are some awesome questions! It must be such a hard thing being away from home for so long, but I guess when you are so passionate about something, it makes it much easier! Do you think you could do what she does?
