This week we have had Mr Johnston as our teacher in the absence of Mrs Anderson and Ms Kirkpatrick. In this task we were learning about different lighthouses in New Zealand. My group was learning about the Dog Island Lighthouse. In my group there is Jack, Mele, Junior and Jay-don. I think everyone worked collaboratively and did a fair amount of work. I learnt that the Dog Island Lighthouse was built on the 5th of August 1865. Did you know that this lighthouse is located in between the South island and Stewart island?
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Ms Kirkpatrick and Mrs Anderson.

Tech Reflection
Today for food tech with Mrs Tuipolotu we made rock cake. Josh and I first read the instructions and had to make sure we got the correct amount of ingredients.First we were to measure the ingredients properly. The hardest thing to do is putting measuring the ingredients properly. In my opinion the hardest part was when we had to our mixture on the baking tin. After all our rock cake turned out pretty good. The ingredients for the rock cake were
1 1/2 of SR flour. chocco chips
1/2 c of sugar
1/2 c pf cream, 1/4 coil
1 - egg
1 scoop onto flat baking tin
put it to oven for 15 mins (180 ° c)

The Inchcape Rock
This week we have been learning about a ballad poem called the Inchape Rock. In this poem there is 17 verses and I decided to choose verse 10. I have picked this verse because it tells that Sir Ralph was a really cruel and bad pirate because he has stolen a lot of money from other privates. To make the verse stand out we were to illustrate the verse by adding pictures that connected to the verses. As you can see I have added a picture of a pirate ship.
M&M's
This week, LS2 have been using M&M's to solve basic maths problems. For this activity we needed to solve the problems in the the group we were split in. In my group there was Mele, Jack, Junior and Jay-Don. I learnt that M&M's was made in March 3rd 1941. The hardest thing to solve this task was finding a percentage of each color.

Food Tech
Today we had our 5th session of food tech with Mrs Tuipolotu. We were really excited to make muffins because this was our second time cooking it, and we know how delicious they are. We followed the 3 instructions that were compulsory which is follow the instructions, correctly measure the ingredients and being able to read the ingredients properly. I worked with Josh S to cook 12 chocolate chip muffins and we enjoyed cooking together. Thank you to Mrs Tuipolotu for teaching us how to cook Chocolate Chip Muffins.

HIIT
Today for our HIIT session we were doing something a bit different from what we usually do. First everyone needed to get into pairs and join up with another two pairs. In my group there was Mataio, Tiava, Zane, Lyric and Affonso. In this session we were going in a circuit doing push ups, pull ups and squats. Each person would do three sets of all the exercises. I found this session a lot better because everyone was getting puffed really fast and it also helped us with our upper body strength. Tiava and I really supported each other in during the exercises and made sure we were doing it the correct way.

How Much Money?
This week for maths we were doing a different word problem that linked to fractions. Before we started we needed to into partners. My partner was Alex. Alex and I solved this problem really easily because we did word problems like this before, and that helped us out.
Kiwi Can Reflection
This week at Kiwi Can we were learning about values and qualities, such as Accountability, Did you know that Accountability means taking responsibility for your own actions. A person has Accountability for their actions and behavior, sometimes being accountable means admitting you have made a mistake. At our school we can show this by bringing our P.E gear, and deodorant for our sports sessions. For our challenges we played a game called copy me. The goal for this game was to get the most amount cards. But, to get a card we first needed to complete some actions that our leader did. At the end everyone tried really hard but my group was victorious. The next activity we did was called 2 truths 1 lie. In this game we were to guess someones lie and two truths that they say. The reason we did this activity is because we wanted to see how it feels to open up when you tell a lie. By doing that we were showing Accountability. I enjoyed this Kiwi Can session and I hope next week is even better.

Math man - Fractions
Today for maths we were to play a game on fractions. This game is like PACMAN but the maths version. I found this game awesome because it really helped me boost my strength on fractions.
Comrades Marathon
This week for reading our task was to research about the Comrades Marathon. But first we were told to get into a mixed group of boys and girls. Since their were no more girls left our group had 3 boys and 1 girl. My partners were Alex, Viva and Jericho. I found this task fun and interesting because I did not know anything about the Comrades Marathon. But after researching I learnt lots of fascinating things. Did you that an ultra marathon is double the length of a normal marathon.
HIIT
Today for HIIT (High intensity Interval training) we were learning how to do a split squat, split squat pulse, split squat jump and jumping jacks (star jumps). I found the split squat pulse the most effective because I felt the stretch while doing it. Everyone was trying to get really puffed and get our heart rates to the red zone. I accomplished that because I was doing the exercise properly and did not get distracted.

Fraction Of An Amount
For maths today we solved fraction equations. First we solved the first three with our teacher (Ms Kirkpatrick) then we could choose if we would stay on the mat or go work by yourself. Mataio and I chose to stay on the mat because we still didn't quite get what we had to do. We did 5 more then we had to do the last 2 by ourselves. I think this task was bit hard at first but it got easy at the end.

Human Body
Today for inquiry we did a quiz about the human body systems. I found this activity very easy because this term for inquiry we have been learning about body systems and at school we went to the life education caravan and we learnt about the body systems.

Tech - Cooking
This week at cooking Tech the year 8b group made muffins. Josh and I were happy because we both loved eating muffins. We had individual jobs which had to be done in a certain time. I was putting in all the ingredients in a large bowl while Josh was turning on the oven and getting our muffin line up ready. At the end Josh and I had 6 pieces of muffins each. The recipe for our muffins is. I think this was a great session because we did everything correct and finished in time.

How Often Do You Go To The Movies?
Today for maths, we were to start and complete two different tasks. The first task was about Cinema Attendance by age group. For this task we were to find a partner or work individually to solve a few questions. So I've decided to work with Alex. Before we could start reading the questions we were to have a look at the line graph that had the age group attendances. As far as I know there are about 8 question to be solved. Once we were done with answering these questions, we were asked to write at a paragraph arguing why younger people are visiting the cinema a lot more than the start of the cinema's times.

Reflex Experiment
In inquiry we have been looking a body systems. In this task we were to get into pairs and experiment our reflexes. I was paired up with Nyjah. We first had to experiment our reaction time using a ruler. test 1 was visual reaction, test 2 was aural reaction and test 3 was tactile reaction. After we did the tests, we needed to group up with another pair and find the averages for our results. Nyjah and I pared grouped up with Jeremiah and Magenta. Once we did that we had to graph it. At the end our group did best at test 3.

Tech Reflection: Cooking
This week, we had our 2nd rotation at Tech. We are doing cooking. For our first session we cooked pancakes. But, first we needed to get into partners and get out all the materials that we needed. My partner was Josh. Then one person needed to go get the flour, sugar, milk, eggs and mix it all together. The second person needed to turn the stove on and heat up the oil in the frying pan. After the ingredients were mixed, we were to pour a little bit of the mixture into the frying pan and had to make sure it did not burn. Once we finished my partner Josh and I each had four Pancakes. I think our pancakes turned out great and was really delicious.
